Chapel Hill, North Carolina Residential Update
March 18, 2025
historical charm meets modern elegance
We spoke to Leslie Stachowicz from Peridot interiors about their latest project in beautiful North Carolina, USA. Located in the historic district of North Carolina, find out more about this modern interior update
THE BRIEF
The homeowners sought to update their residence to accommodate a more functional lifestyle. Key elements of the renovation included expanding the kitchen for a more spacious and efficient layout, updating the primary bedroom and ground floor guest space, adding an elevator as well as creating an upstairs office/gallery space.
“Throughout the renovation, the focus remained on maintaining the character and integrity of this historic home while seamlessly integrating contemporary elements.”

THE KITCHEN
Designed to be an inviting and highly functional space, whilst remaining elegant. Choosing a range of Turnstyle’s beautiful Shagreen furniture handles in Sand and Polished Nickel, this finish compliments the warm tones and natural elements throughout the space.
“The Turnstyle Amalfine™ hardware was the perfect addition to the kitchen the design. The texture and colour are subtle but add an elegant touch to the renovated kitchen space.”
A perfect example of how to ‘complete the look’, Peridot interiors used a range of cabinet handle sizes and knobs for the different cupboard doors and drawers. Even bringing the hardware through to the snug dining area with natural woven dinning chairs and bespoke banquette seating.
“In the kitchen, brands such as Wolf and Subzero were used for kitchen appliances. The cabinetry was custom built by a Wilmington, NC cabinet company called Archer Read Woodworking.”
Given the home’s location within Chapel Hill’s historic district, any exterior modifications required approval from the Historic District Commission. Mark Wilson led the presentation process to ensure that the architectural updates honored the home’s legacy while enhancing its livability. The team’s expertise and thoughtful approach resulted in a seamless renovation that was both functional and historically respectful.
THE OFFICE
Carrying on the warm tones and natural wooden materials, the office and gallery space emulate the modern interior update but with traditional and homely touches.
Opting for handstitched leather cabinet handles in Tan leather with Vintage Nickel, the colours harmonise perfectly with other aspects of the room. Leslie said:
“The leather, with stitch detail, reflects the handmade quality that is inherent in a historic home.”
