The Queens Award Presentation

On Wednesday 1st August we were honoured to have Her Majesty the Queens representative for Devon, HM Lord Lieutenant of Devon arrive in full ceremonial uniform to present the company with the Queens Award for Enterprise- For International Trade.

After an initial meeting with Steve and Christina Roberts ( owners of TD), the Lord Lieutenant was given an extensive tour of the factory by Steve, introducing the staff and showing off the craftsmanship and skills  of the various departments including, planishing, patination and leather work.

The Lord Lieutenant was then joined by Peter Heaton –Jones, MP, the Chairman of Devon County Council -Cllr Carolinne Chugg, Chairman of North Devon District Council -Cllr John Moore Chief Executive of North Devon district council- Mr Mike Mansell and ushered outside for the presentation.

With all the staff and guests collected a glass of champagne and then gathered outside in some glorious sunshine to hear The Lord Lieutenant give a warm and glowing speech about the importance of the award and what an honour it is to be awarded one. This was followed by the citation read by the Deputy Clerk –Mrs Rosalie Robison. Finally the award- a beautiful handmade glass bowl (made by Dartington Crystal – also from North Devon) along with the official warrant, was then handed officially to Steve Roberts to complete the ceremony.

Steve then addressed the audience with an acceptance speech finishing off with an appropriate toast to the Queen.

After a little more conversation the Lord Lieutenant departed leaving Steve to give another tour of the factory to the remaining dignitaries.

After the visit to the Palace this really was another very special day for everyone in the company and we would very much like to thank the Lord Lieutenant , Mrs Rosalie Robison and all our other guests for making the occasion truly memorable.
